Newzones would like to congratulate artist Yechel Gagnon for being awarded a research and creation grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. Gagnon was also recently awarded 2 public art commissions in Montreal.

Congratulations go out to Sophie Jodoin for her many recent achievements!
Sophie has received 2 major government grants from the Canada Council for the Arts (2009) and Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec (2008).
Sophie has also won the position as the invited artist for the 2009-10 season of the Théâtre Français of The National Arts Center (NAC), where she will aid in the creation of the programme brochure and posters for eighteen plays throughout the season.

Congratulations are in order for Colleen Philippi, who will be creating a commissioned work of art for the Calgary Health Region. The Calgary Health Region and The Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation are sponsoring this commission to recognize the donors who have made possible the construction of the Rotary / Flames House in Calgary.
The Rotary / Flames House is a community-based hospice that will aim to serve families from Southern Alberta who care for a child with progressive or life-threatening illness. The house is scheduled to open this fall, and will be run by the Calgary Health Region.

Congratulations to Sophie Jodoin for her inclusion in the following shows this year! Make sure to check them out if you are in the area:
"Embodied Forms", a group show, opens January 31 at 2 pm and will run through March 15th, 2009, at Stewart Hall Art Gallery in Pointe-Claire, QC.
"Menus drames et petits riens" is on display at Maison des arts de Laval, QC, from May 2 - June 21, 2009. The opening will take place Friday, May 1st at 7:30 pm.

Congratulations to Bradley Harms, Sarah Nind, Aleks Rdest, William Perehudoff, Catherine Perehudoff, Sophie Jodoin, Angela Grossmann, Joe Fleming and Laura Wood for their inclusion in Carte Blanche Vol. 2 - a book of Canada's best and upcoming artist published by the Magenta Foundation. The book launch took place this Saturday, November 15th at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art from 8 - 11 pm. A book signing will also be held on November 30 from 2 - 5 pm at David Mirvish Books on Art in Toronto.

Newzones is pleased to announce our attendance at Red DOT London art fair October 16 - 19.
The fair will be located in London's West End at the Radisson Edwardian Grafton Hotel. The first floor of the hotel will be for dealers to showcase work from established to new and upcoming artists. Up to 60 galleries will attend from around the world, exhibiting artwork in individual hotel rooms. This event will also provide viewers with lectures, performance art and evening events.
Newzones has been invited to participate in Red DOT during Frieze week.

are in order for Cathy Daley, whose image has been chosen for Steven K.
Aimone's upcoming book Live and Learn
Drawing (Lark Books/Sterling Publication, 2009). The book will
reproduce an artwork from the James T. Dyke Collection in Arkansas.
Daley is also having a selection of drawings reproduced for an educational
book. Currently in the making, the book has been created by the Center for
Design Thinking, directed by Ellen Lupton at Maryland Institute College of Art
in Baltimore,
with editor Mary Hafeli. Congratulations Cathy! We look forward to more
information once the project is further along.

| Calgary Stampede Foundation Charity Art Auction |

Newzones is proud to be participating once again in Pavilion, the 2nd annual Calgary Stampede Foundation Charity Art Auction. The committee has chosen artworks by Bradley Harms, Dianne Bos and Joshua Jensen-Nagle. Proceeds from the charity auction will go towards youth education programs funded by the Calgary Stampede Foundation.
The event will take place on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at the Victoria and Main Pavilions, Agriculture Building, Stampede Park, Calgary.

Congratulations go out to Jonathan Forrest, Angela Grossmann, Marie Lannoo and William Perehudoff, who have been included in the Glenbow's "the BIG gift" exhibition. This show features Canadian contemporary artwork which has been donated to the Glenbow in the last several months. This exhibition will be operating out of three venues, including the Glenbow Museum, the Nickel Arts Museum at the University of Calgary and Illingworth Kerr Gallery at Alberta College of Art + Design.
Artwork by Marie Lannoo, Jonathan Forrest and William Perehudoff can be seen at the Nickel Arts Museum. The East Gallery is on view until September 27, while the Main Gallery will be on view until July 25.
William Perehudoff, Jonathan Forrest and Angela Grossmann artwork can be seen at the Glenbow Museum from July 25 until September 14. The public opening will take place on July 25th all day, and admission will be free until noon.

Congratulations to Sarah Nind for having been invited to this exhibition. HEARTQUAKE aims to expose and to explore people's emotional reaction to their surroundings. Through the feeling of anxiety, HEARTQUAKE examine our responses as injurers and as injured, with the aim of understanding and influencing the social relations among population groups in the global era.
Sarah Nind is in excellent company in this exhibition, which also features Internationally acclaimed Anselm Kiefer, Alfredo Jaar, Douglas Gordon, Pavel Wolberg and Canadian Max Streicher. HEARTQUAKE was curated by Raphie Etgar and opens July 18 and will run until March 2009.

Congratulations to Aleksandra Rdest, chosen as a semi-finalist for the RBC Canadian Painting Competition from a pool of over 1,400 works by 690 artists. In it's 9th year, the competition seeks to recognize and support emerging artists and awards a total of $55,000 in prize money. |

Congrats to Mike Patten for his participation in the LOOP Festival 2007 in Barcelona, Spain. LOOP is an internation exhibition of video art dedicated to the dissemination, creation and expansion of the medium. We would like to welcome and congratulate our newest artist Dianne Bos for her participation in the group exhibition Time and Space. This exhibition will be traveling across Canada in 2007-08. Opening in the Helen Cristou Gallery at the University of Lethbridge, Dianne's work will travel to the Dunlop Art Gallery ( Regina ), to the Rooms : Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador and then on to the Owens Art Gallery in New Brunswick.

Congratulations to Marie Lannoo on her recent exhibition See Nothing, See Everything, at the Art Gallery of Calgary. The exhibition opens Wednesday November 22nd from 5-7 pm and continues on until January 6th, 2007
See Nothing, See Everything is an installation of paintings that creates yet defies expectations. What you see is subtly transformed in the process of looking and engaging with the work. As a result, an expectation of nothing transforms into the possibility of something and a vital space is created between seeing nothing and seeing everything.
