Congrats to Dianne Bos, who is currently working on a show for the McMaster Museum with Astronomer Doug Welch. Fans can find an article in this month's issue of Canadian Geographic.

Dianne Bos sure is busy! Check out a brand new exhibtion at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery in PEI, which will open November 7 and run through January 31, 2010. Congratulations to Samantha Walrod who received a grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts enabling the completion of the Spring Self Directed Residency at the Banff Centre, from April 11 - May 1 2009.

Newzones would like to thank Nancy Tousley for including Newzones in "Gallery Seen With Nancy Tousley" in the Calgary Herald on Sunday, July 5. Dianne Bos was highlighted and an image of "Stampede Midway 3, (Ride, Ride, Ride) was also included. Congrats Dianne!

Newzones was named in Valerie Fortney's article, "City Unites Over Free Breakfasts" in the Calgary Herlad as one of the stampede breakfast stops. The breakfast attracted roughly 300 people this year, who enjoyed delicious chocolate chip pancakes and fruit salad. Happy Stampede!

Newzones would like to congratulate Angela Grossmann for her induction into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. The RCA Presidents' Dinner at Hotel Arts will include the recognition of the new members.

Newzones would like to extend our congratulations to Dianne Bos, whose "Stampede Midway 3 (Exit), Calgary", is on the front cover of Preview, The Gallery Guide.

Newzones would like to congratulate artist Yechel Gagnon for being awarded a research and creation grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. Gagnon was also recently awarded 2 public art commissions in Montreal.

Congratulations go out to Sophie Jodoin for her many recent achievements!

Sophie has received 2 major government grants from the Canada Council for the Arts (2009) and Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec (2008).

Sophie has also won the position as the invited artist for the 2009-10 season of the Théâtre Français of The National Arts Center (NAC), where she will aid in the creation of the programme brochure and posters for eighteen plays throughout the season.

Congratulations are in order for Colleen Philippi, who will be creating a commissioned work of art for the Calgary Health Region. The Calgary Health Region and The Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation are sponsoring this commission to recognize the donors who have made possible the construction of the Rotary / Flames House in Calgary.

The Rotary / Flames House is a community-based hospice that will aim to serve families from Southern Alberta who care for a child with progressive or life-threatening illness. The house is scheduled to open this fall, and will be run by the Calgary Health Region.

Congratulations are in order for Cathy Daley, whose image has been chosen for Steven K. Aimone's upcoming book Live and Learn Drawing (Lark Books/Sterling Publication, 2009). The book will reproduce an artwork from the James T. Dyke Collection in Arkansas.

Daley is also having a selection of drawings reproduced for an educational book. Currently in the making, the book has been created by the Center for Design Thinking, directed by Ellen Lupton at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, with editor Mary Hafeli. Congratulations Cathy! We look forward to more information once the project is further along.

Newzones is proud to be participating once again in Pavilion, the 2nd annual Calgary Stampede Foundation Charity Art Auction. The committee has chosen artworks by Bradley Harms, Dianne Bos and Joshua Jensen-Nagle. Proceeds from the charity auction will go towards youth education programs funded by the Calgary Stampede Foundation.

The event will take place on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at the Victoria and Main Pavilions, Agriculture Building, Stampede Park, Calgary.

Check out an interview with Janet Naclia, Newzones' Assistant Director, regarding 'Wayne Gretzky Rocks!' with host Susan Holzman of 'Scene and Heard'. Airs this Saturday, July 12 on AM770 CHQR.

Congratulations to Yechel Gagnon for being invited to reproduce inks on paper for an upcoming poetry book published by Editions Noroit, a prestigious Publication House in Montreal. Gagnon is also currently doing a month long printmaking residency at Atelier Circulaire, Montreal.

Congratulations to Don Pollack for his retrospective "American Inheritance" at the Merwin Gallery Museum at the Illinois Wesleyan University. The exhibition runs from November 13- December 11, 2007.

Congratulations to Colleen Philippi, who has been commissioned for a large scale work by the Island Hospital Foundation in Anacortes, Washington.

Be sure to see Yechel Gagnon's exhibition Documents at the Foreman Art Gallery at Bishop's University from September 12 - November 3 2007. This exhibition traces the development of Yechel's work with plywood, her past use of it in printed works, and it's present use as the basis for her large format in-situ installations.

Newzones would like to congratulate gallery artists Jordan Broadworth, Jonathan Forrest, John Kissick, Marie Lannoo and William Perehudoff for their inclusion in Roald Nasgaard's new book Abstract Painting in Canada.

We would also like to mention the inclusion of historical Canadian artists Jack Bush, Gershon Iskowitz, and Jean-Paul Riopelle - all of whom have had solo exhibitions at Newzones.

Congratulations to Lorraine Simms for her participation in Some Girls curated by James D. Campbell at the McClure Gallery. The show runs from September 7 - 27 and focuses on the work of four contemporary Canadian painters who live and work in Montreal. This exhibition deals with the state of portraiture in contemporary art.

We would like to welcome and congratulate our newest artist Dianne Bos for her participation in the group exhibition Time and Space. This exhibition will be traveling across Canada in 2007-08. Opening in the Helen Cristou Gallery at the University of Lethbridge, Dianne's work will travel to the Dunlop Art Gallery ( Regina ), to the Rooms : Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador and then on to the Owens Art Gallery in New Brunswick.

Congratulations to Bradley Harms for receiving an Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) Project Grant, which will help him to continue and expand his great work.

Bravo to Cybele Young, a participant in the 5^th Cheongju International Craft Biennale. The event invites international artists, specialists and commercial companies in the field of craft to create an international exchange of ideas and to celebrate the practical, analytical, commercial and artistic aspects of the craft industry.

Newzones is honoured to be included in the April 2007 issue of Art in America Magazine! As part of a report on the new and established Art Fairs in Manhattan, Newzones' exhibition at the RED DOT Art Fair caught the attention of the editors of the magazine. The feature on the Manhattan Art Fairs can be found on pages 33 and 35 in the April issue of Art in America.

Congratulations to Don Maynard whose recent exhibt, the absence of light, was reviewed in the Spring 2007 edition of Canadian Art Magazine.

Elizabeth McIntosh's paintings from the Vancouver Art Gallery were also included in this issue as part of Richard Rhodes' article The New Abstraction. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Marie Lannoo on her recent exhibition See Nothing, See Everything, at the Art Gallery of Calgary. The exhibition opens Wednesday November 22nd from 5-7 pm and continues on until January 6th, 2007

See Nothing, See Everything is an installation of paintings that creates yet defies expectations. What you see is subtly transformed in the process of looking and engaging with the work. As a result, an expectation of nothing transforms into the possibility of something and a vital space is created between seeing nothing and seeing everything.

Congratulations to Sophie Jodoin whose solo show Regiment will open at the McClure Gallery (Montreal) on November 02, 2006. This public gallery will feature a new body of work by Sophie after which the exhibition will travel to the University gallery in Nanaimo, BC in March 2007 and then toToronto next fall.

Congratulations to Sophie Jodoin who will be participating in Body Notes, an exhibition that focuses on figurative art and the depiction of the body. Six artworks from The Diary of K series will be featured in this group exhibition. The exhibition opens September 21 at the new Concordia gallery FOFA and runs until October 13, 2006

Congratulations to Angela Grossman, Sophie Jodoin and David Pellettier who are participating in Dancing to the Invisible Piper: Canadian Contemporary Figurative Art. This group exhibition, curated by Robert Freeman, focuses on contemporary Canadian artists whose artwork centres around figurative art and the dipiction of the human body. The exhibition runs from September 14 until October 29, 2006 at the Art Gallery of Mississauga.

Congratulations to Bradley Harms who was recently featured in an interview on City TV. The interview can be viewed on Channel 8 in Calgary and will air throughout the day on Friday September 14, 2006.
